It Was Wet

Oct. 31, 2008 - "Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes it rains." That's one of my favorite lines from the classic baseball movie "Bull Durham." Every Saturday in season, West Palm Beach hosts a green market. This time it rained. But some, like this couple, made the best of it. Across the way, the bread stayed dry even if spirits and shoppers were dampened.

Palm Beach Face Lift

Oct. 28, 2008 - The Palm Beach Bike Trail is getting a resurface job - at least part of the very north end is. The Town of Palm Beach web site makes no mention of a resurfacing that I can find. But workmen were out there with all the resurface gear this morning.

The Boat to Nowhere

Oct. 21, 2008 - This is Palm Beach's one and only cruise ship - the Palm Beach Princess - heading out the Palm Beach inlet for it's twice daily rendezvous with Lady Luck who, apparently, lives just a few yards more than three miles off the coast. Yup, it's a gambling ship that goes nowhere. But then, the fare is decent. $25 will get you a meal and five hours with nothing whatever to do except blow your money on various games of chance.

World's Best Hamburger

Oct. 16, 2008 - Here it is - the world's best hamburger. At least that is what aficionados of the Hollywood outdoor bar and grill Le Tub claim. Just take a look. It's the bigest burger I've ever tried to wrap my jaws around and the simple memory of it is now making me hungry. And, no, I didn't get there by bicycle. I did set a personal best for longest drive just for lunch. Below is a view of the bar.

Fun in the Palm Beaches

Oct. 15, 2008 - I hadn't seen this tour boat before and there is a good reason. It isn't on a regular run. According to the web site www.visitpalmbeach.com, you can charter this baby if you have at least nine other like-minded water tourists. No more than 45 and be sure to wear soft-soled shoes or sandals. No price was given, probably so as not to scare anyone off. These people also do 2 hour bicycle trips for $45, bike and helmet included, and other touristy things.

Meet Leroy

Oct. 15, 2008 - Say hello to Leroy. I ran into him in front of the Palm Beach Trail Bike Shop and was impressed by the masses of fishing gear hanging off his old Ross bicycle. You see other guys on the bridges with fishing gear on their bikes, but so far, Leroy is the most geared up I have seen.

Bye-Bye Treasure Coast

Aug. 16, 2008 - Long time Palm Beach Post reporter Pat Plarski waves goodbye at the Treasure Coast staff's going away party following the voluntary separation of 250 Post employees, including more than one third of the news staff, on Aug. 12.
